Bike security and theft prevention is a key concern for cyclists. To boost rider confidence, to minimize vehicle traffic and address limited parking space, KCC proactively organizes and staffs bike valets for key events in Kamloops. With financial support from the New Gold Community Investment Program, the City of Kamloops Climate and Sustainability Division acquired two Bike Valet Kits.  Each kit contains a tent, table, a-frame sign, compact and portable bike racks, and a “tool kit” on wheels that contains bike u-locks, valet claim tickets, disclosure statements, rubber bands, pens, sunscreen and essentially everything required to provide a bike valet service except the volunteers. The City of Kamloops Climate and Sustainability Division received approval from Council to undertake a free Bike Valet Pilot Project in the downtown business district from May to August 2024. This project is intended to provide cycle commuters, business customers and tourists with a secure place to leave their bicycles while they work, shop, dine, and explore the downtown city center. Data will be collected over the duration of the pilot and will inform the City, and business community of the demand for, and results of, offering such a service. We encourage anyone visiting the downtown core this spring and summer to look for the bike valet downtown and take advantage of the service.  Enjoy the peace of mind of having your bike watched while you work, or play.
